Rachel Friedmann

Rachel has been the Principal of Carmel School Association for nearly eight years, and is the founding Head of Elsa High School. After graduating from University College, London with a Bachelor Degree in Law, Rachel took a job teaching English and French in a small Jewish High School. There she discovered her true vocation and an understanding of the value of an integrated Jewish and secular education that she had not had herself. She progressed through various academic and pastoral posts, eventually becoming Deputy Head in charge of student development for all students of this, by now, much larger high school with over a thousand boys and girls on separate sites.

A passionate educator and believer in each child’s rights and potential, Rachel has built up strong and lasting relationships with hundreds of students, often supporting them through difficult challenges and trauma. She brings a wealth of experience, professionalism and understanding of children to Carmel School Association. She has seen children succeed against all the odds and her philosophy is one of positivity, opportunity and belief in each child.

Rachel was energised and enthused by the exciting task of establishing the secondary section of Carmel School Association. She loves Hong Kong, has made many friends, and is privileged to spend her leisure time with her Hong Kong grandchildren, as well as enjoying cooking and reading.

Mira Hasofer

Mira is the Head of the Elementary School. Originally from Sydney, Mira graduated from Moriah College and taught at both Moriah College and Mount Sinai College — two leading Jewish Day schools in Australia. Mira's passion for Jewish education goes back to her childhood where she helped teach the Sunday School classes for children that did not attend Jewish day schools. After graduating from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Education degree, Mira moved to Hong Kong, where she taught in Carmel School for seven years. During this time she completed a Master of Education degree at the University of Hong Kong, with a focus on "Third Culture Kids". As a mother of three young children who attend Carmel School, Mira believes that all children should have access to quality learning experiences in an environment that supports the individual.
