Pastoral Care
Student Voice & Student Council
As proactive stakeholders in their own education, Elsa High students can stand for and be elected to an active and vocal Student Council which represents student interests to senior management, makes suggestions and acts as a partner in improving learning in the school. Our students are articulate and often surprisingly accurate and intuitive in their assessment of school matters and issues.
We intend to offer students the possibility of joining a highly selective training programme whereby they will learn skills such as lesson observation and interviewing.
Student Development & Informal Education
Running side by side with the formal programme, the Student Development Programme - structured by the Student Life Coordinator - develops the individual's communal, social and verbal communication skills. Over and above formal school life, assemblies and regular special activities encourage team-building, building of school spirit and risk-taking as a school and as individuals.
Pastoral Care
Whilst rigour and high standards are central to our academic vision, support for each student and every aspect of student development are central to our pastoral programme. Elsa High prides itself on celebrating success in recognising the progress and achievements of each student as well as their attainment.
Personalised attention and sophisticated pastoral care are the Elsa High trademark. Staff as mentors play an integral part in each student's social, physical and spiritual/religious development. On entry, each student is assigned a personal mentor who supports the students and tracks his/her academic progress. Bespoke student planners facilitate communication between school and home and encourage student pride and ambition.
Regular meetings with the assigned mentor provide the opportunity to identify areas of concern and resolve issues easily and speedily. Targets are set, noted, reviewed and signed off when achieved.
Annual "traffic light" interviews with the Principal take the form of a review of the year and of academic attainment prior to entry into the subsequent academic year.
The emphasis is on individualising discreet support whilst encouraging the student to be responsible for his/her actions.
We firmly believe in a structured but flexible Pastoral Care system which provides a sense of trust, belonging and security for all students. Our aim is for our Pastoral Care to impact positively both inside and outside of school.
