| Tanya Levy is our Pre-school Coordinator. She is originally from Johannesburg, South Africa. She received her Bachelor of Primary Education from the University of the Witwatersrand. Tanya taught second grade for three years in Johannesburg. In 1997, she and her husband emigrated to Sydney, Australia. Tanya taught kindergarten and second grade at the Yeshiva Rabinovich College, and spent one year integrating a child with special needs into the mainstream. She also served as the incoming coordinator for therapists at the school. In 2004, Tanya was both co-partner & teacher in a toddler education program called Mum & Me. In 2006, Tanya relocated with her family to Singapore. She has been in Hong Kong since January of 2008. Tanya started as a Pre-K teacher in August 2008, and in November of that year, she took over as the Coordinator for the pre-school, while continuing to teach. Tanya has three children in the Carmel School. | |
| Annabel Baillie, our Nursery Teacher, is originally from Cheltenham, Gloucestershire in England. She has a Diploma in Nursery Nursing and a Bachelors (Hons) Degree in Professional Studies in Playwork from Leeds Metropolitan University, UK. She arrived in Hong Kong in 2001 to teach in a Chinese kindergarten for one year. However, she loved Hong Kong so much that she decided to stay, taking a position at an international pre-school. Annabel has been teaching the Nursery class at Carmel school since August 2006 and also coordinates the pre-school extended day program. In her free time, Annabel enjoys playing field hockey. | |

Emma Hingston is originally from the U.K. She has lived in Hong Kong since 1997. Emma has the N.N.E.B. qualification, (a diploma in Early Childhood Education 0-7 years). Emma has been teaching for approximately 14 years. Emma is excited to be teaching again after having a two year break to spend time with her six year old son. Emma feels privileged to be involved in a child’s first learning experience. She believes strongly in the importance of fostering a love of school and a love of learning. Emma enjoys swimming, time on the beach and time with her little boy. |

| Adele Pieper, our Pre-Kindergarten Teachers, is originally from the United Kingdom and has lived in Hong Kong for 32 years. Adele has the NNEB qualification (a diploma in Early Childhood Education: 0-7 years), and she has been teaching for more than 17 years. She has a passion for working with young children and believes her work is shaping them into the world’s future. In her free time, Adele loves to travel and explore new and exciting places with her husband. She also enjoys socializing and spending time with family and friends. Adele had worked at Carmel 13 years ago after heading off on some worldly travels. On her return, she rejoined the staff and is in her third year of teaching Pre-K. | |

Dorri Ramati, our Pre-K Teacher. She originally from New York, moved to Hong Kong in 2007. She is excited to be back in the classroom again after taking a break to spend time with her three children, who all attend Carmel school. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English/Rhetoric with a minor in Political Science from Binghamton University, and a Master’s of Arts in Education from Hunter College. She has a focus on Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and has experience teaching English to children, teens and adults. She believes in the importance of providing opportunities for self-expression and exploration, and fostering a love of learning early in life. Dorri has been teaching on and off for the past 15 years, taking breaks to move countries and to be with her family. In addition to Hong Kong, she has lived in Israel, Tokyo, and the U.S. In her spare time, she enjoys music, reading, traveling, learning new things and since moving to Hong Kong, has taken up dragon boating. |

| Betty Fang, our Kindergarten Teacher, is originally from New York and is a new member of Carmel School. She received her Bachelor and Masters Degree in Education in the United States. She is a native English speaker, but she is fluent in Putonghua and has lived in Hong Kong for many years. She is a registered teacher and has a wealth of teaching experience with children of all ages and different nationalities in international and local schools. Betty takes an inquiry approach to teaching English, using drama, creative writing, and project based activities to have students take an active role in learning. | ![]() |
| Pat Kozyra, our Grade 1 Teacher, originally from Canada and has spent her entire career in teaching. She began teaching in grade one under the expert and exemplary guidance of her own grade one teacher, her mother! Her career in Thunder Bay, Ontario included teaching in the gifted and talented program for 15 years. She also taught as a music teacher, English as a Second Language teacher and special education teacher. She has taught other teachers as an art coordinator and a special education lecturer at Lakehead University. Pat taught at United Synagogue Day School in Toronto the year before she came to Hong Kong. Her first position in Hong Kong was as the Learning Specialist at the Canadian International School. In 2003, she became the coordinator and a teacher at the JCC pre-school. She has two married daughters and five beautiful grandchildren. When not in Hong Kong, she and her husband Taros, a retired principal of the Korean International school, reside in their home in the Canary Islands. |

| Nico Van Zyl is our Grade 1 Teacher. He has been in Hong Kong for eight years and has taught various grades at different international schools. Nico has been playing rugby at HKU since his arrival and believes in encouraging all students to recognise their potential. | ![]() |

Nekicia Luckett is our Grade 2 teacher. Aside from traveling to Moscow, Leningrad, and Vernonia as a performing member of the Jefferson dancers, Nekicia earned a high honors diploma from Jefferson Performing Arts High School. She immediately went on to continue ethnic dancing while working toward a bachelor’s degree in Sports Medicine from the University of Oregon. Nekicia earned her Master’s of Arts in Teaching degree and certification shortly thereafter at Concordia University. Her degrees well equipped her to give back to the community in Northeast Portland, Oregon for almost ten years, and also to be an asset for thriving young pupils in a Macau International School. Because Nekicia enjoyed her experience teaching abroad, she has graciously joined the Carmel Primary School teaching staff as the Grade Two teacher this academic school year. |

Rachel Perks is our Grade 3 Teacher. She was born in England and gained her Bachelor of Education in 1995 from the University of Worcester. After working in England for a year, she moved to Hong Kong in 1997. She taught in Discovery Bay for five years throughout the lower and middle primary years. After that, she returned to the U.K. for six years where she taught across the whole primary range. Rachel relocated back to Hong Kong in January 2009, when she joined Carmel in Grade 4. |

Kerys Powell is delighted to be teaching Grade 3 this year. Originaly from Britain, Kerys has lived in Hong Kong for 10 years. She holds a degree in English language and literature and a postgraduate degree in primary education. Kerys sees Carmel School as a vibrant, caring and committed learning environment and is she is excited to join the School. |

| Simon Skinner is our Grade 5 Teacher. He is new to Carmel School. He trained as a primary school teacher in England and taught at an outstanding Ofsted School. His focus is on integration across the curriculum and he enjoys outdoor activities and football. | ![]() |

Julian Lewis is our Physical Education Teacher. Julian trained as a physical education specialist and class teacher at Victoria University. This is his second year at Carmel School. Julian taught in both primary and secondary schools in the UK. His favourite sports are Hockey and Aussie Rules and he enjoys seeing students succeed through effort and determination. |

Chanine Odes is our Art Teacher. She grew up in Cape Town, spent 20 years in Israel and has been in Hong Kong for six months. Having taught Art in a primary schoo in Israel for seven years, Chanine hopes that everyone will see the art room as a place where children can express themselves, can be comfortable and creative. |

Wendy Forster is our Music Teacher. She is originally from America, grew up in the UK, and spent the majority of her adulthood living and working in various international schools abroad. She completed her teaching qualifications at St Luke's College, Exeter, UK, in 1976 and has taught in four different schools in the UK, El Salvador, Fiji and Hong Kong. She was a classroom teacher for the first three years of her time at Carmel, and a subject specialist for the Middle School since 2001. |

Our EAL Teacher, Susan Whaley, first came to Carmel School as an assistant support teacher in October 2005. She took up the position of EAL teacher in August 2006. Susan was born and raised in Zimbabwe. She completed her Bachelor of Arts and Teaching Diploma from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. After teaching for several years in South Africa, she pursued a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology in the USA, after which she worked for four years as a speech-language pathologist in Johannesburg, South Africa. Susan initially came to Hong Kong from 1994 to 2000, where she resumed teaching as her primary focus. In 2003, she qualified with the Cambridge Certificate for teaching English as a second language from International House in Barcelona, subsequently returning to Hong Kong. She has worked with a broad spectrum of ages in a variety of settings, including schools, tutoring and speech therapy institutions, hospitals and clinics. |

| Melody Chiang is our Mandarin Teacher. Melody joined Carmel since 2007. She was born and educated in Taiwan until the graduation from colleges. she majored Fashion Design in a professional female college in Taipei. After Melody moved to Hong Kong, she earned her Master degree in Teaching Chinese As a Second Language from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and completed the Diploma of Advanced Putonghua Teacher from Beijing Normal University and earned Grade A in Certificate of National Putonghua Proficiency Test. During her more than ten years of teaching Putonghua, Melody found it both challenging and rewarding. She enjoys teaching very much and could be well adjusted with different year levels of her students. Seeing students being inspired for autonomous learning and thus making consistent progress is the most charming reward for her. Melody has strong passion for cooking, painting, travelling, observing people and classic music hearing. |
