Last week our U16 Boys Football Team played in the semifinal match for the ISSFHK league with an away game to SIS. The team were ready to put up a good fight and we were determined to make it to the finals.
The game started with a well-organized defensive effort, which managed to hold the score. A defensive error from the opposition team resulted in a penalty kick for CSA. Itay stepped up for the kick, but a perfectly read dive from the opposition’s goalkeeper stopped the ball.
After that, CSA continued to mainly press and defend, making sure to stop all attacks before SIS had a chance to shoot. SIS relentlessly attacked and aimed to keep possession of the ball but a well timed interception from Rafael resulted in a key chance that was barely blocked by the SIS defenders.
As halftime was approaching, we were determined to take the lead. A quick long pass from Sacha ended up in Ron’s feet as he dribbled and shot but was shut off by the goalkeeper. This displayed a combined effort as the CSA team continued to push for the lead regardless of the difference in possession. Score at halftime: 0-0
Shortly after the whistle was blown again, a great attack from our boys set up Noah, who crossed the ball directly into the opposing defenders hand and gave us a free kick. With only 20 minutes left of play in the cold, fatigue was an issue for us but nothing could stop Itay from stepping up for the free kick and rocketing the idle ball into the back of the net and handing the first goal of the match to CSA.
With the lead in our hands, we shifted into a heavy defence and ruthlessly denied SIS the chance to equalize. With special mentions to our Man of the Match: Shahar for his control and defensive contributions in the midfield along with and the rest of the defence for their ceaseless man marking that made sure our lead didn’t vanish. Final Score: Carmel School 1-0 Singapore International School
Great work from the boys, as we focus on one final push against Island School on Monday to secure the ISSFHK trophy.
