On Monday 11 November, we represented Carmel School in Elsa High School section’s first ever Under-16 Girls' football match vs ICS. We all stepped onto the field with both excitement and nerves - the opposition were bigger, older, and had more experience than we were used to. From the first whistle, we entered the match with pure perseverance and bravery. We had several promising opportunities, but their goalie made some incredible saves that kept us from scoring. Despite the frustration, our team captain Tehilla brought positive energy to the field reassuring us that we were doing great.
Throughout both halves, Talia stepped up in defense and absolutely dominated the striker and midfielder from the opposing team. Unfortunately, we did concede two goals in the first half. But, we didn’t let that defeat us: instead, we regrouped and focused on what we needed to do better for the next half.
When the second half began, we shut them out from our half completely. The few times where the opposition did get past us, Bela, our goalie, was there to make a series of incredible saves. When Bela came out of goal and into midfield, Roni’s risk-taking mindset led her to fill in for Bela in goal. Tehilla, our Striker, and Felix, our winger, were constantly communicating and collaborating, creating several opportunities, although to no avail.
Although we didn't walk away with a win with the final score of 2-0, we all walked away with a win in our hearts and our heads held high.
