Yeda (U14) and William (U12) made their way to the impressive ISF squash facilities this past Sunday morning to participate in the ISSFHK Squash Championships. Both boys have been playing squash competitively in Hong Kong for many years and their experience and skill was evident on the day.
The ISSFHK championships saw over 50 competitors play across the Boys’ and Girls' teams from U12 to U20, it was a great celebration of Highschool squash.
Yeda played first and easily dispatched his first round opponent to set up a second round, last 16, match against a very strong player and this was a tough match. Yeda then continued to compete in the Plate competition.
William had a late start having received a bye in the first round but his first game was against a very well matched opponent. He lost the first game but came back strong in the next two to reach the quarter finals.
Yeda played next, in the Plate. He started well and was holding his opponent, however his opponent demonstrated too much skill and Yeda lost a close match to record a Championship exit at the Quarter Final stage.
William then took to the court for an important Semi Final match. He started really strong against quality opposition and although the game was taken to deuce he won. The next game saw his opponent start with a new game plan and this caused William some problems, sadly this game he lost. Going into the final game there was every chance of a win, however, a few drop points let his opponent find an edge and take the final game. William recorded a co-3rd place finish in the ISSFHK Championship division.
As we look to structure our CCA’s for next year, we hope to see Yeda and William show good leadership and help to establish a few more players at Elsa.
