Grade 3 recently presented their Cultural Carnival mini exhibitions, showcasing their current Unit of Inquiry “How We Express Ourselves" to guests and family in an engaging exploration of different cultures and their significance. Students working in groups explored various cultures through presentations focused on history, art, celebrations, clothing, architecture, and cuisine. The exhibition also featured carefully curated artefact tables featuring artwork, clothing, and other items that reflected their cultural research.
In preparation for their exhibitions, students had a workshop on presentation skills. They watched two short videos with tips on how to present and then summarised and reviewed the videos. In the process, students learned the acronym PRESENT (Preparation, Rate, Eye contact, Stance, Expression, Notes, Time), which they implemented during their presentation.
I emphasised to students that it doesn't matter if they have a good presentation if they cannot communicate and present their information effectively. - Ms. Hammond
With Grade 3 teacher Ms. Hammond, the class talked about what makes a good presentation, including presentation strategies and tips, and students worked with their group to devise a plan using their presentation plan booklet. In the final stages of preparation for their exhibitions, groups finished editing their slideshows, curated their artefacts tables, and arranged their display boards with their artwork.
