Last week during Friday's assembly, we had the privilege of meeting writer, actor, and director, Shaylee Atary.
Shaylee shared personal stories during her talk, including the heartbreaking experience of losing her husband on October 7th and the moment she had to run into her neighbor's house that day with her baby for safety during the terrorist attacks.
This traumatic event highlighted her resilience and determination to face and overcome life's challenges. She spoke about the power of film to change the world by emphasizing that cinema can connect people and encourage important conversations about difficult topics.
Her main takeaways resonated strongly: the importance of resilience in the face of adversity, the strength found in community support, and the role of creativity in healing. She inspired all of us with her story, sharing the idea that art can be a powerful tool for connection and change. Her new film, "A Single Light", refers to the hope that can still be found in the darkest of times, and is showing at this year’s Jewish Film Festival.
We are so very grateful for her inspiring visit.
