On Friday 30 January, Elsa High School had the honour of welcoming Larissa Cain, a Holocaust survivor, as assembly guest speaker. Her moving testimony offered students a powerful opportunity to reflect on the resilience of the human spirit in the face of unimaginable hardship. This memorable event was made possible through the generous sponsoring by the Hong Kong Holocaust and Tolerance Centre (HKHTC), with special thanks to its Chairman, Mr. Roland Vogt, HKHTC Executive Director Mr. Simon Li, and to moderator Mr. Geoffroy Wallier for guiding the conversation with such care and insight.
Sacha, Grade 10: Larissa Cain came to the school to talk about her experience in the Warsaw ghetto. She told a story about how she escaped using a 3m tall ladder to climb over a wall. She talked to us about her backstory and how she was treated as a Jewish child by the Nazis. All of Carmel School was honored to listen and be able to hear about one of the only people who has living memory of the Warsaw ghetto. Meeting her was truly a once in a lifetime experience and I think most people would be inspired by her words.
