The Grade 10 students have spent the last eight months working to complete their MYP Personal Projects. This project is the culmination of their efforts during their Middle Years at our Elsa section. We are incredibly proud of how they have tackled this challenge -- demonstrating a clear appreciation for the lessons they’ve learned throughout their MYP journey.
The students all chose projects which played to their strengths, interests and passions in life, many of which embody the IBs mission to nurture internationally-minded young people with a desire to make the world a better place. The Personal Projects this year are particularly diverse - family recipes, history, and motivation; there are scientific projects on carbon capture and storage, robots, and virtual worlds; and there are artistic projects that reflect meaningfully on time and place.
I want to thank the Elsa High School faculty who have been amazing in their roles as Personal Project supervisors. Their expertise has been invaluable.

Student Reflections
Trisha The Personal Project Exhibition this year was held on Tuesday, May 6th. My cohort and I spent the afternoon explaining our ideations and creations to parents, students and staff. To prepare for this, I printed out a sufficient amount of booklets as a take-home from my station, and worked on my trifold which displayed key elements of my final report (Action Plan, Success Criteria, ATL Skills, and Project Evaluation).
My project explores the relationship between mental health and poetry, aiming to give my interviewees a voice. I wanted to explain my ideation process and how I combined a childhood passion with a future career I aspire to. Sharing with my school’s community gave me an opportunity to give the lower grades tips and inspiration for their upcoming projects. Additionally, it helped me show my English teachers and school counselors my interest in their respective fields.
I received meaningful feedback from my peers and staff, on how my work is similar to other poets, as well as its similarities to literature in the DP. I am most proud of the completion of my product. I stayed consistent with my working process and met my deadlines consistently. This ensured that I met the deadline with a well-compiled and completed product. Overall, the afternoon was productive in its lively atmosphere, and I am grateful for the feedback I received throughout the course of my project!
Peter During the weekend before the exhibition, I spent my time preparing my board and finishing up my final product to display. The exhibition has been one of the two main goals of the personal project, so the planning has always been in my mind over the past few months.
I loved having the opportunity to share everything that I have learned. I enjoyed interacting with people from the larger school community. The exhibition challenged me to present all the knowledge and experience I have gained regarding the topic, and deliver it within a short presentation to people that didn't have any prior knowledge regarding my project.
The feedback varied from parents, students and staff. It was encouraging to see how everyone was congratulating me, but everyone had different views on my product. Most feedback I received mentioned that I should continue to develop my project further into the DP and university.
I am most proud of seeing all of my hard work come to fruition. There isn't a single part of this project where I don't feel proud of my work. I understand that there are some areas where I could have been more dedicated, but I am incredibly proud of how much our cohort has accomplished.
